About

The Registry

Couples plan the most expensive party of their lives with almost no public information about what things actually cost. We are building the dataset that should already exist.

The problem

Ask a friend what their wedding cost and you will get a real number. Ask the internet and you will get a content farm. The result is a market where the buyer always negotiates uninformed, and two photographers a mile apart can charge a factor of three for what looks, on paper, like the same package.

What we are doing

The Registry is a public dataset of real wedding pricing, contributed anonymously by couples after their wedding and paired with vendor data from public sources. Every line on the ledger carries context: who, where, when, how many guests, what season, what scope. We publish medians, ranges, distributions, and the individual data points behind them. We do not publish couples’ names. The Registry is about the prices, not the people.

How we make decisions

  • Transparency over polish. If the data is thin in a market, we say so. We would rather show a small sample with honest context than a smooth average with no context.
  • Anonymous by default.Submitting a cost requires no account, no email, no name. We hash the submitter’s IP for rate limiting and throw the rest away.
  • Independent. No vendor pays for placement. There are no sponsored listings, no “featured” tiers, and no ad units. The product is not for sale.
  • Vendor-respectful. Vendors who want a listing corrected or removed get a fast response. We are publishing facts from public sources, not running a hit-piece engine.

How to help

  • Submit what you paid. Two minutes, fully anonymous. Every line you add helps the next couple plan with less guesswork.
  • Tell a friend. The dataset only gets better as more couples contribute.
  • If you are a vendor and want your listing reviewed for accuracy, email hello@viewtheregistry.com.
